It began simply. A group of book enthusiasts in Portugal realized something was missing — a dedicated space for readers in their 40s and 60s to discuss literature seriously, without judgment. We weren’t interested in casual book swaps or quick coffee chats. We wanted real conversations. Deep dives. The kind of discussions where you walk away thinking differently about a story, a character, a theme.
Building Something Real
Dulceria Ltd started in 2019 with monthly reading groups meeting in libraries across Portugal. We’ve grown to include author meet-and-greets, creative writing workshops, and lecture series. What hasn’t changed? Our commitment to quality discussions and genuine connection. We don’t rush through books. We don’t pretend there’s one “correct” interpretation. We read, we think, we share.
Today’s Reality
We’ve welcomed over 2,000 members since launch. People come for the books but stay for the community. They’ve formed friendships, joined writing groups, even collaborated on literary projects. That’s what we’re most proud of — we didn’t just create an event calendar. We created a place where readers feel genuinely understood.
