Why Choose Our Literary Community

We’ve been connecting serious readers since 2018. Here’s what makes us different.

Thoughtfully Curated

We don’t just pick random books. Every selection is chosen to spark genuine conversation. Our reading lists span literary classics, contemporary debuts, translated works, and emerging voices from Portuguese authors. That means you’ll discover books you wouldn’t find on your own — and you’ll have knowledgeable people to discuss them with.

Experienced Leadership

Our facilitators aren’t amateurs. Most have backgrounds in literature, publishing, or professional writing. They guide conversations without dominating them. Everyone’s perspective matters here — whether you’re a longtime reader or just getting back into books after years away.

Real Authors, Real Connections

We partner directly with published authors to bring them to your community. These aren’t polished panel discussions. You’ll have actual conversations with the people who wrote the books you’ve been reading. Many of our author events include smaller breakout discussions where you can ask more personal questions.

What Our Members Say

Real experiences from readers who’ve found their literary community with us.

“I’d stopped reading after my kids grew up. Wasn’t sure I’d have anything in common with other book lovers anymore. But this group changed everything. We’ve been meeting for two years now and I’ve made some of my best friends here. Plus the books they choose are incredible.”

Helena, 58

“The author event with Gonçalo Cadete was the highlight of my year. I’ve never had the chance to talk directly with someone whose work I admire. He was so generous with his time and we got into this fascinating conversation about how he researches his novels.”

João, 62

“I’m not a writer — I’m an accountant. But I always wanted to try writing. The workshop helped me see that it’s not about being talented, it’s about showing up and doing the work. I’m actually working on my own memoir now. Didn’t think that’d happen at this stage of my life.”

Maria, 55

“The library lectures are fantastic. I’ve learned so much about the history of Portuguese literature and contemporary issues in publishing. It’s the kind of thing I’d never get anywhere else. The facilitators really know their stuff.”

Paulo, 60

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about joining our literary community.

Do I need to be an experienced reader to join?

Not at all. We welcome readers of all levels — whether you’re getting back into books after years away or you’ve been reading voraciously your whole life. The conversations are welcoming and inclusive. Everyone brings different perspectives, and that’s what makes our discussions rich.

What’s the typical group size?

Most book clubs have between 8-15 members. We keep groups intentionally small so everyone gets a chance to participate. If a group grows, we’ll sometimes split it so that conversations stay meaningful and personal.

How much time do I need to commit?

It’s flexible. Most book clubs meet twice a month for 2-3 hours. Some people attend every session, others come when they can. Creative writing workshops are typically 2 hours per week for 6-8 weeks. Author events are usually evening events lasting 1.5-2 hours. Choose what works for your schedule.

Are events held in Lisbon only?

No. We run programs in 15+ cities across Portugal including Porto, Covilhã, Braga, Guarda, and smaller communities. We also organize regional author events and library lectures. Check our events calendar to find gatherings near you.

Do I have to buy books for the book clubs?

You’ll need to read the selected book, but you don’t necessarily have to buy it. Many members borrow from libraries, swap with friends, or use digital versions. Some events are organized through libraries, so books are available there. We’re happy to suggest affordable options when we announce selections.

What if I’ve already started a book club locally?

We’d love to connect with you! Many local clubs link up with our network for author events and special workshops. We also provide resources, reading lists, and discussion guides if you want them. Get in touch to explore how we might partner with your group.
